‘Ever have a problem telling if something was singularly the most brilliant concept of all time, or if it was among some of the worst? That’s exactly the way the “What Would Uncle Jesse Do?” web site will make you feel. At points, you’re ready to laud its genius. Then, you scroll down the page a little and read some of the most worn material since knock-knock jokes.
Most noticeably, the site seems to enjoy lifting material like extreme comments such as calling everything “totally sweet,” and using “crapped my pants”-style jokes that other, more oft-viewed comedy sites have been known to do. It’s too obvious.
Wait a minute…
This site isn’t funny “ha-ha,” it’s funny “strange.” Eh, the Uncle Jesse instructional on how to teach a monkey Kung Fu is OK but far from brilliant. Nevertheless, it is a spectacle – and that is the point of the Web Site of the Week. It’s a necessity to have something off-kilter to help set your workweek straight.
One of the newer additions to the site is an essay contest (the first annual one ended recently), which could win you a day with Uncle Jesse. It sounded promising, even after realizing that the contest was bogus. The three top essays were published online and, at that point, it became obvious that even the submissions were probably bogus. The writing style is too similar to the site’s content.
The most frequently recurring funny/strange part of the site is the superimposed John Stamos pictures. The digitally altered images are about as dead-on accurate as George W. Bush’s grammar. Have mercy, it’s bad! Also, he seems to appear in most pictures with a can of PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon). While we may not have be masters of the history of “Full House,” it seems like there is no real connection between the man and the beer.
You have to wonder, what would Uncle Jesse (err… John Stamos) do if knew this site existed?
