‘Brilliant artsy post-post-punk. Along with bands like Q and not U, El Guapo is the sign of Dischord’s new wave of releases. This album shows a marked improvement from “The Burden of History,” their first EP release from 1997. It’s tight, intricate, and intriguing. Justin Moyer’s unique voice gives it a Pixies-on-crack feel. Sometimes it’s a bit over your head, but most of the time it hits its mark. High points: Three vocalists, often singing in a choral fashion. Low points: Couldn’t find a way to work “Are Gringos falling from the sky?” quote into the review.
